Ultrasound – a painless and accurate look inside the body
Ultrasound diagnostics is one of the most important and useful methods in modern veterinary medicine. It is a completely safe, non-invasive, and painless examination that provides a detailed view of the abdominal organs, soft tissues, lymph nodes, heart, and reproductive organs.
It is used to diagnose many conditions — from acute digestive issues, through chronic liver and kidney diseases, to monitoring pregnancy and heart function.
In our veterinary clinic in Novi Sad, ultrasound exams are part of everyday diagnostics, both for dogs and cats, and for rabbits, ferrets, and small rodents.
Ultrasound is especially valuable because it provides a dynamic image — in real time we can see how the organs look, how they fill, empty, move, and function.
When is ultrasound used?
Ultrasound is recommended when the animal shows symptoms such as:
• vomiting or diarrhea
- enlarged abdomen
- pain when touching the abdomen
- urination problems
- suspected pregnancy
- sudden weight loss
The examination is valuable for detecting:
• tumors, cysts, enlarged lymph nodes
- liver, spleen, pancreas, kidney, and bladder problems
- presence of free fluid in the abdomen
- uterine inflammation (pyometra) or pregnancy monitoring
In females, ultrasound is used to confirm and monitor pregnancy, and in males to examine the testicles and prostate. In addition, ultrasound can detect various congenital and acquired changes that are not visible on an X-ray.
What does the exam look like?
Ultrasound is performed while the animal is awake or under mild sedation if the patient is aggressive, scared, or in a lot of pain.
The area being examined is shaved and gel is applied to ensure good contact between the probe and the skin. The whole exam takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the region and purpose of the examination.
Results are available immediately, and the veterinarian can show you the changes directly on the screen.
Our clinic, in Novi Sad and Veternik, is equipped with a modern high-contrast ultrasound machine, which provides exceptionally clear images and precise interpretation.
If you live in Veternik, Novi Sad, or the surrounding area, and your pet shows symptoms that require deeper diagnostics — ultrasound is the right choice.
Don’t wait for the problem to become visible — with ultrasound, we can see what the eye cannot and respond in time.
Ultrazvuk ne boli, ne zrači i ne ostavlja posledice — ali može spasiti život.
