Laboratory Analyses – The Key to an Accurate Diagnosis

Laboratory diagnostics are an indispensable part of modern veterinary medicine. In many cases, an examination alone is not enough to reveal the true cause of a pet’s problems — that is why we rely on precise laboratory tests that help us quickly and accurately make a diagnosis and start appropriate treatment.

Complete Blood Count

The complete blood count provides insight into the general health status of the animal. This test monitors the number and appearance of red and white blood cells, as well as platelets. It can indicate infections, anemia, inflammation, dehydration, immune disorders, and other issues that often show no obvious external symptoms.

Biochemical Tests

Blood biochemistry provides data about the function of internal organs — liver, kidneys, pancreas — and the balance of electrolytes, glucose, proteins, and enzymes. These tests are crucial for older animals, chronic patients, and before any surgery, when it is important to know if the organs can tolerate anesthesia.

Urine Analysis

Urine analysis reveals changes indicating urinary tract infections, bladder stones, kidney problems, or diabetes. It is also useful for monitoring therapy and early detection of chronic diseases, often before serious symptoms appear.

Fecal Analysis

Fecal examination is used to detect intestinal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, coccidia, and giardia. We routinely recommend it for young animals, pets with diarrhea, weight loss, or before administering antiparasitic treatment.

Rapid Tests

Rapid tests allow detection of specific viruses, bacteria, and parasites within minutes. We most commonly use tests for parvovirus, canine distemper, FeLV/FIV (feline leukemia and AIDS), giardia, as well as tests for heartworm and Lyme disease. These tests are essential when a quick treatment decision is necessary.

Endocrinological Examinations

Endocrinological tests measure hormone levels to detect disorders such as diabetes, Cushing’s and Addison’s syndromes, hypothyroidism, and hyperthyroidism. These diseases are common in older animals and require accurate diagnosis and precise therapy monitoring.
