Cat Vaccination Novi Sad

Cat Vaccination – Complete Guide

Vaccination is the most effective way to protect your cat from serious and often fatal infectious diseases.
In our clinics in Novi Sad and Veternik, we conduct a complete and up-to-date vaccination program tailored to cats of all ages and lifestyles.

    1. Trivalent Vaccine

Protects against the three most common and highly contagious viral infections in cats:

    • Panleukopenia (feline distemper)
    • Herpes virus

    • Calicivirus

    Schedule:

    • First dose: from 8 weeks of age

    • Second dose: after 3–4 weeks

Revaccination: after 12 months, then annually

    2. Vaccine Against Feline Leukemia (FeLV)

FeLV is a severe viral disease spread among cats through contact secretions (saliva, blood).
Before vaccination, a rapid FeLV and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) test is mandatory.

Testing is done from a small blood sample and takes 10–15 minutes.

    Schedule:

    • First dose: after completing the basic vaccination, from 16 weeks of age

    • Second dose: after 3–4 weeks

    • Revaccination: after one year

    Further recommendations:

    • Cats that go outdoors or live with multiple cats – vaccinate once a year

Cats that live indoors only – revaccinate every 2–3 years according to manufacturer’s recommendation

    3. Rabies Vaccination and Microchipping

Rabies vaccination and microchipping are legally mandatory in Serbia.

    Every cat must be:

    • vaccinated against rabies

    • microchipped and registered in the national database

Rabies vaccine is given after completing the basic vaccination and renewed annually.
Microchipping is done by simple subcutaneous insertion of the chip (on the left side of the neck), and the chip number is linked to the owner’s data.

If a cat gets lost, the microchip is the only reliable way to return it to the owner.

Before Vaccination – Prevention Comes First

Before any vaccine, the veterinarian must ensure the cat is healthy.. It is also necessary for the cat to be:

    • dewormed (cleared of internal parasites)
    • protected against fleas and ticks

    • For outdoor cats, we also recommend monthly protection against heartworm
