Sterilization – A Responsible Choice for a Healthier Life of Female Pets
Sterilization is a surgical procedure in which the ovaries, and if necessary the uterus, are removed in female animals to permanently prevent pregnancy.
Unlike castration, which applies to males, sterilization in females brings numerous health and behavioral benefits and plays an important role in population control and prevention of serious diseases.
In our clinics in Novi Sad and Veternik, sterilizations are performed following modern protocols, with safe anesthesia and dedicated postoperative monitoring.
Our goal is to make this procedure quick, safe, and in the best interest of your pet.
Dog Sterilization
Sterilization in female dogs permanently eliminates the possibility of pregnancy, but also significantly reduces the risk of pyometra (pus-filled uterine infection), mammary gland tumors, and ovarian tumors.
It also prevents the inconveniences of heat — bleeding, attracting males, and behavioral problems related to hormonal cycles.
Cat Sterilization
Sterilization of female cats not only prevents unwanted litters but also eliminates the stressful heat periods, during which cats can become very vocal, nervous, and prone to escape.
Thanks to sterilization, the risk of tumors and infections of the reproductive tract decreases, and the cat’s behavior becomes more stable.
Rabbit Sterilization
In female rabbits, sterilization is an important preventive measure against uterine cancer, which occurs in a large percentage of unsterilized rabbits over two years of age.
Besides health reasons, the procedure has positive effects on behavior, reducing aggression and territoriality. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, with special care due to the physiological specifics of this species.
Ferret Sterilization
In female ferrets that do not mate, prolonged estrus can cause severe hormonal imbalance and potentially fatal aplastic anemia.
Following modern veterinary recommendations, in our clinics in Novi Sad and Veternik we perform exclusively chemical sterilization of ferrets.
The procedure involves implanting a chip that temporarily stops hormonal activity without the need for surgical intervention. This method is safer, reversible, and significantly reduces the risk of endocrine-related complications.
Small Rodent Sterilization
In female guinea pigs, chinchillas, degus, and other small rodents, sterilization is recommended if animals are kept in mixed groups or there is a risk of uterine tumors.
Due to their size, the operation requires a high level of precision and carefully dosed anesthesia, which is the standard we maintain in our clinics in Novi Sad and Veternik.
